Why Were the 2025 HSC Results Different?
The 2025 HSC results were a shock for many. The pass rate was 58.83%. A total of 1,251,111 students took the exam, but 508,701 students failed (41.17%).
- Total Pass Rate: 58.83% (726,960 students passed).
- Female Student Pass Rate: 62.97% (69,097 got GPA-5).
- Male Student Pass Rate: 54.60% (32,053 got GPA-5).
Education board officials said this result is the “real picture.” They did not give instructions for easy marking. The Chairman of the Dhaka Board said students are “away from the table” (not studying).
The English pass rate dropped from 77% to 58%. This is the lowest in 20 years. This happened because MCQs were removed from the English exam, making it harder.
Professors also said that students’ study habits became weak because of the short syllabus during COVID. Now that the full syllabus is back, the “real picture” of students’ basic skills is clear.

Because of the results, a record number of students applied for the board challenge.
Across all 11 education boards, 226,000 students applied to re-check 428,000 answer papers.
English and ICT were the subjects with the most applications. Students felt their marks in English 2nd Paper and ICT Theory were lower than they expected.
